“We are
weaving character every day, and the way to weave the best character is to be
kind and to be useful. Think right, act right; it is what we think and do
that makes us what we are.” Elbert
Hubbard
Welcome
ETIQUETTE...just the word
conjures visions of extended pinkies while sipping tea,
fancy events such as weddings, or a long list of
old-fashioned rules. Etiquette is not just a set of
silly rules designed to make life uncomfortable.
Etiquette rules define a society and reduce conflict
while encouraging a sense of community. It is the way we
express the respect, kindness, and thoughtful regard for
our fellow man that come from our desire to treat others
as we would like to be treated and serve as the
foundation for what we call “Good
Manners.”
Across our country a return to good
manners and the etiquette that accompanies them is on
the rise. In fact, even in business environments where
“nice” is often considered weak, the importance of
civility is gaining significance. Recent studies by
Harvard University, The Carnegie Foundation, and the
Stanford Research Institute have all led to the same
remarkable conclusion: 85% of an individuals success in
getting, keeping, and advancing in a position depends on
people skills, and only 15% on technical knowledge and
skills.
Read on and learn how children, teens and
young adults can build these important life
skills!
